Reproductions from an original set of Turn-of-the-Century Stone Lithographs, circa 1880-1910.
This pair of “Guardian Angels” are reproductions from an original set of Turn-of-the-Century Stone Lithographs, circa 1880-1910. Recaptured in true Victorian style, these heavenly angels in rich vibrant colors are from the private collection of Old Print Factory, Inc. Once based in New Baltimore, Michigan, Old Print Factory was a manufacturer of antique paper reproductions.
Stone lithographs were produced by a printer applying a greasy substance to a flat stone in a liquid form with a brush or a pen. After the stone was prepared in this manner, the printer then dampened it with water and rolled it with a single colored ink. The dampened areas repelled the ink and the greasy areas accepted it. Paper was then placed over the images on the stone and pressure was applied by a press on to the paper. This process was then done many times using a single color at a time, layer after layer, to achieve the finished results.
“Guardian Angel “K”, Print No. 2A 472” and “Guardian Angel “L”, Print No. 2A 473” are excellent examples of Victorian stone lithographs. Intended for framing, each of these beautiful prints, on sturdy card stock, measures approximately 5 ¾” x 7 ¾”.
True Victorian elegance, these lovely prints will make wonderful holiday gifts, cards or decorations. Better yet, indulge yourself, frame these glorious “Guardian Angels” and hang them in your home; they’ll look absolutely stunning!
