Poinsettia in Glass Disc

Poinsettia in Glass Disc

SKU: HSS13370

A beautiful hand-painted red poinsettia is encased in a lovely glass disc. The back of this stately ornament is painted in a rich gold tone. New, from holidayshopsaratoga.com, this pretty ornament measures approximately 4” and has a gold cord for hanging.

Poinsettias, also known as Mexican Flame Leaf, Christmas Star and Winter Rose, are flowers of Mexican origin, native to the Pacific coast of the United States, some parts of central and southern Mexico and a few localities in Guatemala. They are named after Joel Roberts Poinsett. Poinsett was the first United States Ambassador to Mexico, who introduced the plant to the U.S. in 1825.

The plant’s association with the Christmas celebration originated in 16th century Mexico, where legend has it that a young girl who was too poor to afford a gift for the celebration of Jesus’ birthday was told by an angel to gather weeds from along side the road and place them at the foot of the alter in the town’s church. Before long, brilliant red “blossoms” began to sprout and the humble bouquet of weeds was transformed into a breathtaking poinsettia plant.

Celebrate the history and traditions that surround the Christmas season with this wonderful “Poinsettia in Glass Disc” Christmas tree ornament.
