Recreated from the Merck Family’s historical collection, these richly colored, 8 x 5 inch antique inspired greeting cards are beautifully printed on heavy card stock and then dusted with fine sparkling iridescent glitter to give them a festive holiday look! Suitable for framing, these lovely cards come with envelops for mailing.

On the back of each charming card is a brief history of the Christmas card: “The first Christmas card was sent in 1843 by Sir Henry Cole, who sent the illustrated greeting to his friends rather than the customary hand-written note. The practice of sending printed greeting cards became increasingly popular and by the early 1860s, Christmas cards were being purchased commercially. In the period from 1900 to World War I, postcards came into favor and featured Santa in a variety of outfits making his rounds, some in the new-fangled modes of transportation”.
