Lovespoons

A token of love and affection!

The custom of carving and giving "Lovespoons" originated in Wales hundreds of years ago. Originally, they were carved by young men and offered to the girl he loved as a token of affection. The intricate carvings symbolized his intentions; a heart represented a lifetime of love and devotion; a lover’s knot, the bond between lovers; and a cross, that their love would be blessed. The lady’s acceptance, or refusal, signified her answer to his marriage proposal.

Today, as well as being a gift of affection, "Lovespoons" have become treasured keepsakes given to commemorate special occasions such as weddings, anniversaries, christenings, birthdays and as Christmas gifts.

This unique ornament measures approximately 6 ½’, is made of hand-painted porcelain and comes gift-boxed, with the legend of "Lovespoons" inscribed on the inside lid. On the back of the gift box is a “to and from” space for personalizing.
