In rich tones of red, gold black and blue, and accented with sparkling glitter, this stunning piece measures approximately 5”. “Griffin” is in “new”, in mint condition” from store stock, and it comes with its original Mia collector’s tag and see-through ornament gift box.

The griffin is a mythical creature with the head, beak, talons and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion. Sometimes, griffins are portrayed with a long snake-like tail. In some traditions, only the female has wings and males are pictured with spikes on their backs instead of wings. The griffin is said to have its roots in India, although others have said they originated in Northern Russia or Ethiopia. These winged creatures are said to have made their nests from gold that they found in the mountains, and their eggs resembled agates. This being the case, hunters would search out their valuable nests which created a very hostile creature that protected their nests with a vengeance. Ledged has it that the griffin would eat the hunters and devour their horses if they dared to pillage their golden lair.

Griffins are usually depicted as heroic symbols. They are known for their speed, ability to fly and having keen eyesight like an eagle, and have the majesty, strength and courage of the lion. When seen in hieroglyphics, griffins depict heat and summer. In Assyria (an ancient empire of western Asia,) both the griffin and the dragon were symbols of wisdom. In Roman art, griffins are often pulling the chariot of Nemesis (goddess of justice and revenge).
