Using antique chocolate, ice cream and barley candy molds to create their originals, Judi Vaillancourt and the artisans of Vaillancourt Folk Art create stunning chalkware pieces that continue to delight collectors’ world wide! Some of the moulds they use are over 100 years old! Once the figurines are hand-painted, they come to life with the authentic look, feel and faces of a bygone era. The Vaillancourt Folk Art studio is located in the historic 1826 Manchaug textile mill in Sutton Massachusetts, making these wonderful hand-crafted creations truly “Made in America”!
“Dark Green Striding Father Christmas”, was created using an antique chocolate mould-the mould is unmarked, therefore, the maker is unknown. A stately Father Christmas carries a walking stick in one hand to forge his way through the winter snow. In his other hand he carries a bag of oranges; a costly and scarce treat during the long winter months many years ago. Father Christmas would often leave one of these sweet fruits in the toe of the stocking of good little girls and boys as a delightful reward.
Dressed in a dark green cloak, with a beautiful winter pattern, this striking chalkware figurine measures approximately 8 ¼”. In mint condition from store stock, this is a new introduction for 2007.
